Chuck Phelan – Treasurer

Chuck Phelan produces the cameras and sound for the live stream of Sunday’s worship service and also serves as the treasurer of the board of directors of MCC UCC in the Valley.

Chuck met Rev. Troy Perry at the 1993 March on Washington when he, symbolically, married couples on the steps of the IRS building in Washington. From that point on, Troy invited Chuck to come to MCC Los Angeles each year for the church’s anniversary in October. Chuck finally took him up on it in the fall of 1998 and became a member of the church shortly thereafter. Chuck met Rev. Mel White at MCCLA in early 1999 when he came to preach during then-pastor Nancy Wilson’s sabbatical.

Through meeting Mel, Chuck became involved with his organization, Soulforce, which has been life-changing. Chuck became a board member and ultimately became board chair of Soulforce for 10 years as well as serving for 10 years as President of the UFMCC Board of Pensions. Chuck says, “It’s a way to give back for the much that I have been given in life.”

When Rev. Pat Langlois became senior pastor of MCC UCC in the Valley five years ago, Chuck transferred his membership to MCC UCC in the Valley and is a part of the multimedia/television ministry as well as serving as treasurer of the church for the past three years.

“I’ve been involved with radio and television production all my life so being a part of the television broadcast of services at MCC UCC in the Valley is a natural. I’m thrilled to be able to be a part of our “church without walls” for our worldwide community serving over 100 visitors each week, both in-person and online.”

Chuck’s favorite Bible verse is Micah 6:8 – “What does the Lord require of you? To do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Chuck, along with his husband, Steve, have started the Micah 6:8 fund to, amongst other things, assist underprivileged people in obtaining an education in the hope that they will “pay it forward” to others.
